UCN Catch Reports

John Beckett

I'm not a long stay Angler by any stretch of the imagination. Work, study and family commitments mean most of my fishing tends to be one or two twelve hour over-nighters squeezed into a week at the most. Through the summer most of my fishing was done on a very large Cheshire water although size wise I caught nothing above mid-doubles it was nice to see that the bait was instantly attractive to the carp. An over-night session on another Cheshire water produced a 22.11lb Common. This is the biggest fish in the lake well down in weight but was just one of the 21 runs I had that night. I ended up landing 14 fish mostly in the 14 - 17lb range. It was one of the most frantic sessions I have ever fished, the Carp were really feeding HARD on the bait and I ended up playing fish on both rods on 3 occasions. I could probably have caught more but by the early hours of the morning tired and covered in wet slime I was struggling to keep both rods in the water at the same time. I moved on to a very tricky, small water just North of Manchester for the Autumn. Having trickled a little bait in as often as I could for the preceding few months I opened my account with a real bang taking a 26.8lb Common and a 23.10lb Mirror on my first trip and following up over the next few weeks with another Common of 20.4 and a small mid double mirror before the winter set in. It's certainly proved yet again to me that a little pre-baiting with such a quality bait like The Enzyme goes a long way. As a measure of how tricky the water can be its not unheard of for anglers to spend a couple of seasons chasing a similar return to what I enjoyed over the Autumn period. I'm convinced that The Enzyme has played a significant part in the catches mentioned above. Theres so much Hype surrounding bait today its hard to know what to believe but hand on heart this stuff is good. I'm also convinced that once the fish are on it they're really on it and they'll really get their heads down hard. To me in my mind anyway, that makes them a lot easier to catch and I'm really looking forward to getting the bait into some more North West waters this coming year.
